Choosing Effient

Effient® (prasugrel) is indicated to reduce thrombotic CV events in patients with ACS managed with PCI.1 Review the data for the following high-risk subgroups: UA/NSTEMI with diabetes and STEMI.

Effient is included in guidelines for UA/NSTEMI and STEMI patients undergoing PCI.2-5 Read the guidelines.

Convenient Dosing

Effient offers a convenient dosing schedule1:

  • Initiate Effient as a single 60-mg oral loading dose (six 10-mg tablets)
  • Continue at 10 mg, one tablet once daily
  • Patients taking Effient should also take aspirin (75 mg to 325 mg) daily
  • Effient may be administered with or without food

SELECTED SAFETY: SIGNIFICANT BLEEDING RISK

Do not start Effient in patients likely to undergo urgent CABG. When possible, discontinue Effient at least 7 days prior to any surgery. Additional risk factors for bleeding include body weight <60 kg, propensity to bleed, and concomitant use of medications that increase the risk of bleeding (eg, warfarin, heparin, fibrinolytic therapy, chronic use of NSAIDs). Suspect bleeding in any patient who is hypotensive and has recently undergone coronary angiography, PCI, CABG, or other surgical procedures in the setting of Effient.
